The Dyson Airwrap is made to style from damp hair, not dripping-wet hair. For defined curls that last, start by getting your hair to a “towel-dry” state (roughly 70–80% dry), then use the curling barrels to wrap and set each section.
1) Prep your hair. After washing, gently squeeze out water with a towel or microfiber wrap. Detangle with a wide-tooth comb, then apply a lightweight heat protectant and (optional) a curl-enhancing mousse for extra hold.
2) Pre-dry to damp. Attach the pre-styling dryer and rough-dry your roots and lengths until hair is damp, not wet. If hair feels cold and drippy, it’s too wet; if it feels mostly dry, lightly mist with water so the Airwrap can shape effectively.
3) Section for control. Divide hair into 4–6 sections (more if thick). Clip everything up and work from the bottom layers first. Smaller sections create tighter, longer-lasting curls.
4) Choose your barrel and direction. Use the longer barrel for longer hair. Set the barrel so airflow wraps hair away from your face (switch sides as you move around your head).
5) Create the curl. Hold the ends of a 1-inch section near the barrel and let the airflow catch and wrap the hair. Keep gentle tension (don’t yank). Use high airflow and medium heat if your hair is fine; medium airflow and medium-to-high heat for thicker hair, adjusting for comfort.
6) Set the curl. Hold for about 10–15 seconds, then use the cool shot for 5–10 seconds to “lock” the shape. Release and let the curl drop into your palm for a moment before letting it hang.

It’s best not to. For consistent curls and less frizz, towel-dry first and pre-dry until hair is damp, then curl and set with a cool shot.
